A police sergeant who jumped to the aid of a colleague that got attacked by a blade-wielder received the Royal Recognition for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a knife to the neck of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver subsequent to a road collision in the area in July 2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a electric weapon.

"Officer attacked," the officer stated over his radio.

Officer-mounted and dashboard camera footage released by the police department depicted Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a hood up, run up to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a blade outstretched.

He ran into the officer who tripped and went down to the pavement, before Sgt Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the floor despite being continually attacked with the weapon.

PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and awaited a clear shot, concluding the confrontation to an finish.

Sergeant Ansell stated audibly: "I need help on my throat here, I've been stabbed in the neck."

Sgt Ansell received multiple lacerations to his throat and additional cuts to his arms and torso, while Sgt Foster suffered knife wounds.

Authorities said Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to control his colleague's hemorrhaging prior to paramedics arrived.

The latest honor follows after the law enforcement team won internal Valor Recognitions in October 2023 and the police federation award from the regional officer association in April 2024.

They additionally received a North West Bravery Award in summer 2024.

"The efforts of each policeman eventually rescued each other and ensured no bystanders suffered any harm."

Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in early 2024, according to officials.
